Palestine is the seat of Anderson County, about 55 minutes southwest of Tyler, and one of the most historic small towns in the region. Homes generally range from the $160,000s to the $300,000s and up, with a notable stock of restored Victorian and early-1900s houses near the 44-block historic Main Street district.
Known as the Dogwood Trails Capital of Texas, Palestine draws visitors each spring to Davey Dogwood Park and is the home base of the Texas State Railroad steam excursion. Outside town, the Piney Woods setting means wooded rural acreage is widely available.
Best for: historic in-town architecture, attainable price points, and surrounding wooded acreage.
